The 2020 Hyundai Sonata does a lot of things right. It has more road presence than nearly everything in its class, it has a luxurious interior (much like its much larger sibling) and it’s just fun to drive.
However, Hyundai did drop the ball to further separate the Sonata from others in its class and that was the choice to not include all-wheel drive.
Not Including All Wheel Drive Was A Missed Opportunity
In its class, there are not many sedans that offer all-wheel drive the only real options being the Nissan Altima and the Subaru Legacy. This would have been a great opportunity for Hyundai to further make the car stand out from the rest in its class.
The advantage to an all-wheel-drive Sedan is it provides better handling, it can give the vehicle a sportier feeling and its better in rough conditions. While Subaru has only been building all-wheel-drive vehicles for what seems forever (yes even on the Impreza) many of the competition simply don’t bother in this space. Hyundai could have taken that opportunity to show that not only is the Sonata alive and well but it can do things that its competitors simply can’t.
What are your thoughts about the lack of all-wheel-drive on the new 2020 Hyundai Sonata and do you think Hyundai should reconsider adding it in a refresh or as an additional trim for the limited model?
