Ambient Lighting is certainly not a must-have feature for most people but it’s an awesome bonus. While you can install an aftermarket kit virtually for any vehicle and hardwire it. In fact, Kia includes it on their flagship vehicle the Kia Telluride. The issue though is the Kia Sorento doesn’t offer it on any trim.
There is quite a bit of misinformation currently circulating you can add ambient lighting to the Kia Sorento. It’s a $450 add-on, it should add footwell lighting and cup holder lighting for the driver and passenger. This is what the same add-on does for the Kia Telluride as well.
Why Isn’t There Ambient Lighting On the 2021 Kia Sorento?
Well, I imagine it’s for two reasons. It seems after the announcement and before launch, many features were seemingly stripped out to reduce cost from the Sorento. The head-up display was also announced at launch and we know this isn’t an option now.
Furthermore, this is likely to help prevent the Sorento from further stepping on the Telluride’s toes. Since they both offer a third-row though the Sorento’s is much smaller to the point it feels like 2 separate classes of vehicles.
What are your options?
If you’re looking for the most straightforward way to get ambient lighting, order the interior light kit and have your dealership install it. Or, look for a vehicle equipped with at when you are looking to purchase.
Alternatively, if you’re looking to add interior lighting and don’t care whether or not it’s perfect you could go ahead and order an aftermarket kit.
