The Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy trim is coming to the U.S according to NHTSA filings. However, what comes with this new trim, and what can we actually expect here in the United States?
Well, it depends there is a bit of a misconception in Korea the “Calligraphy” Trim level seems to come with features that are more in-line with the Limited model in the United States. However, the Calligraphy trim in Korea has a VIP package where some of the new jaw dropping features come from.
Calligraphy Trim In Korea VS U.S Limited
Features that were included in the U.S Limited Trim that are going to the Calligraphy Trim in Korea include some of the following.
- 12.3 Inch Digital Display Cluster
- Nappa Leather Interior
There are some other features in the Calligraphy Trim not previously offered in lower trims but this comes down to packaging. There are some new things exclusive to the Calligraphy Trim in Korea (which since it isn’t announced in the U.S yet we have to assume will carry over).
New in Calligraphy:
- New Grill (has a triangular waterfall appearance much more in-line with the SE / SEL models in the Palisade as opposed to the barb-wired appearance in the Limited Trim.
- A new wheel design different from any other design.
- New Interior Color (Khaki) it’s basically the Back Trim but uses a grey accent instead of all black.
- Large Lower Air In-Take
- A wide rear chrome diffuser.
The VIP Package
This atleast in the Korean Model is where all the cool stuff lived including the following.
- Second Row Center Console: This is a center console it looks to be fixed in place as opposed to a tray. It has LED lighting, storage (obviously) a touch screen control to control the two screens in the back and heated/cooled cup holders.
- Wing-Type Headrest: These are the big airplane like headrests you see in the picture above for the second-row seats. They provide more comfort I am going to assume they can be folded in (just like on an airplane) and they appear at least according to the rough translation include “a built-in speaker for a more magnificent sound”.
- 2 Displays For Second Row Passengers: The Korean site lists out a bunch of info about these but it should allow you to stream music, YouTube, and other services. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could stream to the screens from mobile but I am just speculating.
- 2nd Row Wireless Charging Pads in door pockets. In addition to the USB ports in the back of the chairs, there is a wireless charging pad in each of the second-row doors for passengers to simply drop their devices and they will charge.
There are some other minor details I have seen in some Korean videos that I can’t begin to translate. But we need to analyze some of these known details for the U.S market.
Bundling & Hyundai U.S.A
I would love to say I have all the answers but I don’t. But Hyundai has a trend with the U.S market vs their own domestic market when it comes to bundling. Bundling is also known as packaging its how car companies fuse features together to make certain trim levels and packages.
Hyundai with the Hyundai Palisade Limited removed all options and they have a history with that in the U.S market. They tend to avoid on the higher-level trims of their vehicles of adding a bunch of packages. The Hyundai Palisade Limited doesn’t feature lock anything behind extra packages like the SEL model does. I would then assume that the Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy Edition in the United States will also include many of the features (with potentially some missing features) found in the VIP Package.
